Bio:

William H. Scott Jr, DO, is a Board Certified General Surgeon with Southern Nevada

Surgery Specialists and the General Surgery Program Director for St. Rose Dominican

Hospital starting in 2025.  

 

Dr. Scott is a graduate of the University of San Diego.  He did his medical school

training at Des Moines University in Iowa and completed an internship at Valley

Hospital in Las Vegas.  He completed his general surgery residency at University

Medical Center locally as well.  He received the prestigious Chairman’s Professional

Conduct Award during his chief resident year.  

 

Dr. Scott came to SNSS after separating from the Air Force after a 14-year active-duty

career, all stationed at Nellis Air Force Base.   He has deployed numerous times all

over the world as a general medical officer and as a part of the Air Force’s Ground

Surgical Team, traveling throughout the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Central and South

America.  On those deployments he had significant experiences in trauma surgery,

trauma systems, tropical medicine, and operational surgery.  He took over as the

Military Program Director in 2018, training surgical residents from the Air Force and

UNLV.  He continues to serve in the Air National Guard as a part of the Ground Surgical

Teams, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  

 

Dr Scott currently focuses on minimally invasive procedures, including hernia repairs

and complex abdominal wall reconstruction.  He also lectures and trains surgeons

nationally as a Key Opinion Leader for Intuitive Surgical on minimally invasive surgery,

with a focus on surgical resident education in robotic surgery.  

He has contributed to the medical literature, publishing on various topics from

pediatric neurological trauma to Malaria and is currently working on robotic surgery

topics for future publication.
